PRIMA22 Student Scholarship Recipients

Meet the 2022 Annual Conference Student Scholars! 

Kaylee Boggan is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in political science and English. Her interests and research are focused on public policy, linguistics and environmental science. Currently, she is a second-year graduate student at Texas State University pursuing a master’s degree in public administration with a concentration on water conservation. Further, she has a background in teaching, law (as a paralegal), public policy, tech and the nonprofit sphere. When she is not working, she enjoys hiking, swimming, reading, writing, singing, and hanging out with friends and family. She is an aspiring public administrator and conservationist.

Chase Burton is an accomplished scholar, athlete, mentor, speaker and intern. He was born and raised in Douglasville, Georgia. Chase saw his mother work endlessly to make ends meat, which sparked Chase’s interest in finance and saving. Mr. Burton is known for his determination and addiction to success. During his undergraduate years at Morehouse, He graduated top 1% of his class, interned at numerous fortune 500 companies, became a football captain as a walk-on and was valedictorian for athletics in finance. His visionary perspective has earned him opportunities to work on global, prominent campaigns with Fortune 500 companies, design product applications to educate low-income communities on finance, and mentor aspiring athletes and children from fatherless homes. This upcoming fall, Chase will be earning his Masters in Management from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business in Washington, DC.  

Jennifer Calandra has a background in finance and has worked in the healthcare insurance, automotive banking, and sustainability industry. She attends the Marilyn Davies College of Business of the University of Houston–Downtown (UHD), where she is a double major in insurance & risk management and management information systems. She is also a minor in supply chain management with a cumulative GPA of 3.67. Jennifer is the president of the Switch Energy Club at UHD. There are a number of reasons why she decided to pursue a career in the risk management and insurance industry, primarily being the diversity of evolving risks and possible solution. She is drawn to the surplus industry as it fits her risk assessment and critical thinking capabilities, as well as her interest in emerging technologies.

William Huang is currently a junior studying risk management and insurance at St. John's University with an everlasting passion for underwriting. His work experience includes being a current risk assessment and insurance management intern at the NYC School Construction Authority, assistant merchant at Huang Fashion Inc., content creator for YouTube and carrier at Apparel Production Inc. In each of these roles, William’s ability to liaison/attend meetings with incoming clients/brokers, analyze and create analytical spreadsheets of insurance contracts, or problem-solve to meet deadlines is executed. Being the secretary of Gamma Iota Sigma’s Alpha Iota Chapter, his presentation/group skills are tested with duties including reporting to the Grand Chapter all logistics/data that he must gather from all the organization’s events, as well as assisting with numerous events.

Hoto Kohoue is currently pursuing a dual master’s degree in data analytics and quantitative risk management at Georgia State University. With a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics, Hoto had the opportunity to work as a research assistant for his department to help banking and insurance companies leverage their respective market value through risk mitigation techniques. Post-graduation, he will launch his career as a quantitative analyst in the banking industry while working towards attaining his ASA designation from the Society of Actuary.

Lucas Songy is currently a rising senior risk management and insurance major at Temple University in Philadelphia, graduating May 2023. He is also pursuing a minor in both accounting and legal studies. Lucas has worked as a file clerk with the insurance litigation firm of Tollefson Bradley Mitchell & Melendi for three years and is currently interning as an underwriter for Reliance Standard Life Insurance. Lucas is very involved in his student professional organization for his major, Gamma Iota Sigma, having received the Employee Benefits Committee Member of the Year in 2021. He is also a collegiate lightweight rower, and having rowed since freshman year of high school, he is currently pursuing rowing at the international level. Lucas is an avid lover of the outdoors and is hoping to fulfill his bucket list of visiting and hiking in every United States National Park.
